Maps - Google and Apple

Google still seems to be slightly ahead of Apple Maps. Apple offers superior 3D views of cities. Excellent to exploring a new city. Both offer powerful directions support for driving, walking, cycling and public transport. The public transport navigation makes these services much more accessible, with bus and train times integrated with the map. Particularly useful in a strange city. great on an iPhone.

Google allows saving of addresses as Your Places and the ability to download large areas for 30 days onto one's iPhone or iPad. This is very useful when overseas and out of contact with the network, or needing to reduce use of data.

Note: if a Mapping app is running, it is using data all the time,  and power, so if battery power is an issue, close the app. [double click Home and scroll through a open apps and flick upwards the ones to close]
