Simple Publishing - Blogs and Wikis

Blogs

Blogs are a remarkably simple and powerful form of publishing. Many people use them for a travel blog to keep friends up to date with one's travels.

There are many free blog platforms. One of the largest is Google's Blogger which is the platform for this blog. You need a Google account: go to blogger.com and start your blog. To edit on a computer, which is the easiest, just use you browser - Safari, Chrome, etc. On an iPad you need to use an app. The best one is BlogPad.

You need
  1. A name for your blog. You have to find a web address that is available. If your names are Jack and Jill, you might try for jackjilltravel.blogspot.com.au traveljackjill, or jjtravel etc. The title of the blog can be plain language, like Jack and Jill on the move, Adventures of Jill and Jack and so on. Adjust this in Settings.
  2. Photos, since travel is a lot about seeing things. The photos need to be on your tablet or laptop. They are then transferred to the blog and uploaded to the web.
  3. Software for your tablet. For iPad, use BlogPad Pro. For a computer you don't need special software, just go to your blog address on a web browser.
For an example, using Blogger, go to http://jtblogging.blogspot.com.au/ which is my blog about blogging.

Wikis

A wiki is a simple type of web-site that can be set up by an amateur. A free site like this one can be for for a club, a hobby, a family history, a travel journal. There are lots of tools to make it easy and it is free. This is one of my wikis, hosted by Google Sites: Agile Tapping
  • you will need a Google account. If you have Gmail then you already have an account.
