Setting up a blog

A blog is a simple website that is usually set up as a series of posts (articles) that appear with the most recent first. Lots of people write a travel blog. They are used for a multiplicity of publishing tasks, like a family history, a news site or a hobby.

I've been using Google's Blogger to host my blogs, like this one, but I have just switched my affection to Wordpress. Blogger is fine but Google puts little effort into updating and improving it. Wordpress is a gigantic open source (community managed) blog service that is now a comprehensive website management service. You can use it free online or pay for sophisticated design and software that you download or run from a professional site. You can use a free wordpress address or pay a fee for your own URL.

A good place to start is the free modest version. The biggest shortcoming of blogger is that it does not run on IOS very well. This is not a problem with Wordpress. To get started, there is a thorough set of instructions here: https://learn.wordpress.com/

A blog is simply a web site which is viewed and edited via your browser - Chrome, Safari etc. It is most efficient to set up a blog on a computer: it doesn't matter which type of computer. On a portable device like an iPad or iPhone you can just use a browser to view or edit, but the dedicated App for Wordpress will do a better job. So, edit on the App, view on Safari or Chrome.
