Photos 1 - major upgrade 2016

Apple Photos is now competing on the same level as Google Photos for in-the-cloud photo storage. Photos offers a modest 5Gb online storage in iCloud free, 50Gb for $1.49(Au) and 200Gb for $4.50 a month. It offers a superior linkage to Maps which allows a entire photo collection to be displayed according to where the images were taken. See Labels - Photos for more articles. Note: you can use it from a Windows PC as well, linking photo your collection to all your devices. See how to Here.)

Photos taken with a camera without locational data can be manually give a location. This can be done in groups, so old scanned photos can be selected as a group and their location entered manually. To  do this, select an image and right-click to open Info, then enter the location - eg: Parndana, South Australia and the location will be displayed after a pause. See Photos label: Photos: adding date and location to old images for more details.

A large collection takes up to a week to be uploaded to iCloud and then all the images can be accessed from devices linked to the same iCloud account: iPhones, iPads and desktop computers, including PCs.

Photos can be sorted into folders and albums on IOS devices but most easily done on a Computer. These folders and albums carry over to IOS devices. They are also sorted into Places and People albums based on face recognition.

Shared albums can be created via iCloud and friends invited to view these albums. Other people can also have access to upload their own images to a shared album.
