Photos 3 adding date and location to old images

Apple Photos offers wonderful features to sort photos by location and date. This is done automatically in many modern cameras and all smartphones. Old photos that have been scanned to digital form lack this data. On an Apple Photos* these can be manually entered, allowing old images to be fully integrated into your collection.

  1. Open the image in Photos
  2. Open the Get Info window for the image (right click, or Window/Info or Cmd/I)
  3. Double click the date, and then Adjust it to the approximate date the photo was taken.
  4. In the Info window, double click Assign a Location and enter a location (eg: Loxton, South Australia). In a few moments this location will be discovered and you select it.
Old photos will now appear on Photos Places view in their proper location, and in the appropriate year.

*Many Windows photo management applications allow image date and location to be manually adjusted. Also there are many free software applications that allow you to edit this metadata (information about your image). See Wikipedia
