Notifications are messages about what is going on. News, social media messages, email, weather and many other functions have notification that may be very useful or very irritating. They are available from many apps. Their default position is On, so it is necessary to go to the Settings/Notifications, to select which notifications are wanted, and how they display, including sound settings.
Notifications can be modified from the Notification Centre in Setting, or from each app in Settings.
Notifications have been significantly upgraded in 2016 to make them more obvious and for some, more intrusive. Swiping an IOS screen to the right from the Home screen displays the notifications centre. The Edit button allows selection of some apps and their positioning.
